Have you ever seen those fail videos online?
You know the ones where someone is at the gym and something happens to them that makes you think… “If that were me, I would have no other choice but to find another gym.”
Solely because of how embarrassing that would be!
When you are doing something new, it is hard to not feel like a small fish in a pool full of sharks.
Like everyone is going to think that you don’t know what you’re doing and silently judge you.
So how do you avoid this?
Truthfully, there’s a lot you can do! But I will boil this down to two key points that will give you the confidence to work on your health and fitness, without worrying about sticking out like a sore thumb.
You need to:
- Know what to do
- Get reps at doing it
How to avoid embarrassment at the gym
Step 1: Have A Plan
If you know what you are going to do before you go in, you will be leaving less opportunity for wandering and wondering.
You might be thinking… “Cool. But I don’t have a plan.”
Well, your plan could be as simple as
- Treadmill
- Machine that works my legs
- Machine that works my arms
- Stair Machine
- Walk out the door
If your only goal is to get in a routine at the gym, your plan does not need to be perfectly optimized and planned down to the seconds of rest you take.
It just needs to get you to the gym consistently.
A plan takes away the uncertainty. You walk in knowing how the session will go, so you’re less likely to end up in a situation that feels embarrassing.
Step 2: Get Reps
The more you do something, the more confidence you build at it.
So, the more you go to the gym, the less scary it gets.
Now this is really great in theory. But in practice that becomes a lot harder to do because it doesn’t account for the first time you go.
Or the second.
Or the third.
You still will likely be worried about sticking out even if you have a plan.
But, there’s a couple things you can do to get reps, before you even step into the gym.
1. You can talk to people to get “mental reps”
2. You can establish a workout routine at home, to help build that confidence.
Let me explain a little further:
We have a facebook group that you can join here: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1CoJavVdxM/
In this group, there are a bunch of people just like you, who want to make a change to their health and fitness.
In fact, a lot of our clients are in this group as well!
They came into our service not really knowing much about how to make changes to their health and fitness.
And a lot of them were worried about looking dumb.
But now, they are confident in their routine and know a thing or two about what to do.
You can join our group and ask questions
share stories
swap recipes
and more!
Mental reps are just like studying for an exam.
If you spent an entire semester learning about calculus would you feel more confident about doing math before or after that semester?
Same concept here.
In that facebook group, we also have a guide on making your own fitness routine at home that takes 10-30 minutes to complete.
So we actually cover both steps here for you before you even have to leave home.
What can you do today?
If you want to speed up this process of reaching your health and fitness goals, without worrying about the fear of looking dumb in the process, we have you covered.
