Most people think they need a crystal-clear goal before they walk through the door of a gym.
Like they owe it to themselves, and to whoever is coaching them, to show up with a plan already figured out.
Lose 20 pounds.
Get back to where you were at 35.
Run a 5K by October.
Here’s the thing, if that’s you I love that!
Give us a specific target and we will build you a map so precise that you’ll know exactly where you are on it at any given moment.
That’s not a sales pitch.
That’s literally what we do!
We love it!
But what if you don’t have a goal?
If you just know something needs to change and you can’t quite name what the destination looks like yet?
That’s completely okay too!
More than okay, actually.
And I want to explain why, because I think a lot of people are sitting on the fence not because they don’t want to make a change, but because they feel like they haven’t earned the right to start yet.
Let me start with the goal side of things first.
When a client comes to us with a specific goal, let’s say they want to lose 30 pounds in six months, we don’t just nod and say “great, let’s get to work.”
We break that down.
We use our InBody scanner to get a real picture of where someone is starting… not just body weight, but muscle mass, body fat percentage, where that fat is distributed, and a handful of other markers that tell us a lot more than a bathroom scale ever could.
And then we use our training metrics to track progress week over week, so we always know whether we’re moving in the right direction, how fast, and whether anything needs to adjust.
Here’s why that matters.
If your goal is to lose X pounds by a certain date, we can tell you exactly what your nutrition needs to look like to make that happen and how you should be training to support it.
Not roughly.
Not “eat clean and do some cardio.”
Specifically.
And because we’re tracking the right things, we’ll know early if something isn’t working, before it becomes a problem.
We can see it coming.
That’s a different experience than most people have ever had with fitness, and honestly, I think it’s one of the clearest things that sets us apart from other gyms in the area.
The goal gives us direction.
The tracking gives us honesty.
Together, they give you the closest thing to a guarantee that the work you’re putting in is actually going somewhere.
Now. What if you don’t have a specific goal?
Here’s what I’ve watched happen with a lot of people who have come through our doors.
They walk in thinking they want one thing.
Six months later, they want something completely different, not because they failed at the first thing, but because they discovered something better for them along the way.
We’ve had clients come in specifically wanting to lose weight.
And they did.
But somewhere in that process, they started getting stronger, and they realized they actually loved how that felt.
So that became the thing.
The weight was almost beside the point.
We’ve had clients come in who honestly didn’t even like working out.
It wasn’t their thing.
They came because a spouse nudged them, or a doctor said something that stuck, or they just got tired of feeling the way they were feeling.
No real goal.
And now they look forward to the days they get to come in and train.
That’s not something I can fully explain to you before you’ve experienced it.
But it’s real, and it happens, and it happens more than you’d think.
You don’t have to be a gym person, to enjoy the gym!
So many people find their goals on the path too!
You don’t need to know where you are going to start.
The goal is a destination that becomes clearer as you actually start moving, not something you have to figure out before you take the first step.
The honest truth is that this is why we built TENRA the way we did.
The whole idea from the beginning was to build a space where anyone, regardless of where they’re starting or what they’re starting with, can become a better version of themselves.
That mission doesn’t require you to have a perfect plan.
You just need to take the first step.
If you have a specific goal, we will meet you there and help you hit it faster and more precisely than you could on your own.
If you don’t have a goal yet, we’ll help you find it.
And if your goal changes along the way, which it very well might, that’s not a problem!
How many times have you gone to a buffet and only ate one dish?
How many times have you seen a charcuterie board and only ate one kind of cheese?
It’s not all that different with training!
You can find what you like along the way!
Either way, you don’t need to have it all figured out to take the first step.
That part is on us!
